Painted Lady IV

Macro shot of a Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) butterfly, from above, feeding on a thistle. Painted lady butterflies migrate from North Africa to the UK in summer. In some years,they can be seen in huge numbers. This picture was taken in 2009, near Ombersley, Worcester in a filed which was literally swarming with them.
